Darbouka Workshop CD

The Darbouka (or Doumbec, Tabla) is a drum widely used in arabic countries, beautiful sounds
and rhythms can be produced even by simple technique.

The Darbouka Workshop CD is the outcome of a prolonged workshop for bellydancers
who wanted to deepen their knowledge of oriental rhythms and can be ordered by email .
The Numbers in thetable of contents are leading to corresponding mp3 files.

The drum language i am using is simple and easy to follow for everyone.
Of course my knowledge of indian tabla language was very helpful.

right (leading) hand: Dum - a bass sound produces by a flat hand stroke in the center of the drumhead
                                      Ta or Tak - a sharp sound by the fingertips on the edge of the skin

left hand: Gum - bass sound (like Dum, but left hand)
                  Ka or Kat - sharp sound (like Ta, but left hand)

This system not only allows to speak the rhythms which is essential for memorizing,
but also indicates which hand should be used for the individual strokes.

As this are exercises thought for beginners they are to be played "hand to hand" throughout;
that means the hands always alternate - the pauses, symbolized by a " - ", can be filled by a slight (!) stroke as in number 50.
That makes for an even flow of strokes, especially for beginners most important.
The beats or main strokes are marked by an "/" , mostly there are 4 strokes in a beat (except 3/4 meter, there we have 6).
